Liver Biopsy Prep Instructions

Please read all instructions at least 7 days before your procedure.

CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY, to ensure we are a participating provider, that your procedure is covered, and what your out of pocket cost will be. You may be required to get pre-certification and/or pre-authorization. Be sure to ask about any fees charged by the facility and anesthesiologist. The procedure code CPT 76942.

NO DRIVING: You cannot drive, use a taxi, or a bus after the procedure. You must be accompanied by an adult during your entire stay. If you fail to do so, the hospital may cancel your appointment. If unable to care for yourself, you may need someone to assist you for 24 hours after the procedure.

ONE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE:

  1. No solid foods or dairy after midnight the night before your procedure.
  2. Diabetic Patients: Take your usual diabetic medications. Monitor your blood sugar at your usual times. Oral Diabetic medication – take 1/2 the night before the procedure and none the morning of the procedure.

DAY OF PROCEDURE:

  1. DO NOT take Anti-Inflammatory medications or Aspirin the day of your procedure.
  2. You may have clear liquids only until 4 hours prior to your procedure. Diabetic Patients: Reduce AM insulin dosage by 1/2. Do not take oral diabetic mediations until after the procedure.
  3. Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
  4. Bring your Photo ID, all Insurance cards and a list of all prescription medications and nonprescription products (over-the-counter, anti-inflammatory, herbal, vitamins, etc.) you are taking and a list of any medications you are allergic to with you to your appointment.

Please provide 72 business hours notice to avoid a late cancellation fee of $75.
